Should you be excited by S25 lineup?

Tomorrow is the day that many Samsung’s fan are waiting since months, if not since a whole year, the 2025 January’s Galaxy Unpacked. Not the one about that foldable that you’ll never buy or that ring that you will wear 3 times before forgetting in the drawer.

This is THE GALAXY UNPACKED! The one that shows off the new shining Samsung main lineup, the Galaxy Ultra smartphones, the best of the technology that a huge company like Samsung has to offer for this year and probably for some more also. The top tiers, the premium line, the masterpiece, the result of years of research, market studies, technology improvements.

The only, small, tiny problem is that this year the new S25 lineup is going to be a candidate for the most underwhelming device of the year.

From the rumors it has begun clear that Samsung really didn’t put much effort into improving their best selling device, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Ah and yeah, this post is not gonna consider S25 and S25+ as they are ridiculously overpriced, basically unchanged since 4 years and with features that really make me wonder why they still produce them and who buy these models.

Back to the point, the S25U is really at risk to be the most anticipated underwhelmed device of the year, if the rumors turn true.

Let’s have a look at some of the wildest speculation about its specs when compared with S24U.

Display

Nothing has changed. Really, nothing.

Camera

Nothing has changed if not for the 50 Mpx ultra wide. Yeah exactly, the one that you have never used in your current phone, that one will be improved.

S Pen

Could lose the bluetooth functionalities.
No it’s not a joke, S25U could drop the S Pen bluetooth features to shoot from the camera, change song, etc etc. So if you are wondering, this seems to be related to the new slimmer size of the S Pen and yes, it is a downgrade, period.

RAM

Nothing changes for West markets, it seems that it will have again 12GB at max. So you can get 7 years of update but you will most probably change it sooner due to massive AI requirements in this regard. For some reason, here we don’t deserve the 16GB version

Camera SW – again

It looks like we may get Video Pro Log finally, I am surprised it didn’t happen before considering the non-stop chasing that the big S is doing on Apple, we are used to say that later is better than never.

No rumors when it comes to the noisy RAW files, nor regarding the shutter lag which affects each and every Samsung device since years. OneUI 7 didn’t bring any improvement on my S24U, let’s see if they are reserving the best for tomorrow.

Conclusion

I really hope that Samsung is keeping the best for the presentation and that is not gonna be only about AI as, realistically, this topic doesn’t really interest anyone and it’s just pure marketing.

Features like Now Brief, Now Bar, Now this and Now that would not be enough to justify a new device on the market, especially knowing that they will probably arrive as a whole package on the last 2 years lineups.

The more we go, the more Samsung is losing its original pattern of innovation and tech challenges in order to sit on a more comfortable position of “too big to fail” player, that doesn’t really need to innovate to gain market consensus.

We know that this goal will be accomplished also thanks to the help of many YouTubers that will explain us how the AI is helping your photo to be better, your audio to be more satisfying, you screen to be brighter and so on.

This is probably the saddest part, but it is probably material for another day.

See ya!
